Awedu Institute and Opobo/Nkoro LGA Successfully Conclude 3-Day Legislative Capacity Development Workshop
The Awedu Institute of Business Management and Leadership (AIBML), in partnership with the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, has successfully concluded a transformative 3-Day Legislative Capacity Development Training Workshop, held from December 1st–3rd, 2025, at the Golden Tulip Evergreen Hotel, Port Harcourt.
The workshop, designed to strengthen local legislative effectiveness, brought together eleven Councillors, the Legislative Clerk, as well as the Executive Chairman and Vice Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro LGA. The programme delivered an intensive blend of theoretical insight and practical legislative simulations, aimed at improving policy engagement, oversight responsibility, and quality representation across the local government.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the the Vice President of AIBML, Dr. Lenu Wege, described the workshop as “another milestone in the institute’s firm commitment to capacity building, leadership excellence, and the professional development of public officials.” He emphasized that effective representation requires continuous learning and competence, not merely occupying an office.
AIBML expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro LGA, Hon. Barr. James A. James, for granting the institute the opportunity to facilitate the training and for participating fully throughout the three days. His active involvement, the institute noted, reflects a leadership style grounded in readiness, inclusiveness, and dedication to the development of his people.
Special recognition was also given to Dr. Lenu Wege, Vice President of AIBML, for his strategic coordination and immense contribution to the success of the workshop, as well as to Amb. Joy, a representative of NAPTIP, who delivered an enlightening session on child trafficking, exploitation, and community protection measures.
AIBML urged all participants to put the knowledge gained into action to ensure improved legislative performance, quality decision-making, and strengthened governance within the LGA.
The institute further reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the partnership with Opobo/Nkoro LGA for more developmental programmes aimed at enhancing local government administration and public service excellence.
